Arrangements for Baptism

 

At St. Paul's

Baptism at St. Pauls & St. James'

We very much want:

  • To get to know you.
  • For you to get to know the Church into which you or your child will be baptised.
  • For you to know what baptism is all about and what happens in the baptism service
  • To fix a date for the baptism in the knowledge that you are aware what baptism means and are certain you are properly prepare. 

When you contact the Church

  • You will probably speak to the Rector, Fr. Malcolm Ainscough. 
  • Before your conversation ends an arrangement will be made for a named person from Church to visit your home.

Home visit

  • During the home visit the baptism policy will be explained to you.  
  • What you should expect from the Church and what we ask of you will also be discussed.
  • We will ask you to attend two meetings about baptism.
  • We will invite you to attend four Sunday morning services.
  • A baptism application form will be completed, but the date will not yet fixed.

Godparents        

  • Prospective Godparents are encouraged to take part in Baptism Preparation whenever possible.                            

To Summarise

 Before the baptism we ask that you:

  1. Allow us to visit you at home
  2. Attend an nformal meeting with refreshments to learn about baptism and what it means to be a practising Christian from parents who have children themselves
  3. Attend a second meeting to learn about the deeper meaning of baptism
  4. Experience worship with the Church at on at least four Sunday mornings
